China CDC National Institute of Parasitic Diseases Conducts Exchange, and expands Cooperation on Tropical Disease Prevention, and Control in Egypt

At the invitation of Professor Emad Khater from Ain Shams University, the Egyptian PI of the China-Egypt Collaborative Research Project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Academy of Scientific Research and Technology of Egypt from both side, a delegation led by Li Shizhu, Director of the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases (also the National Center for Tropical Diseases Research) under the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), visited Egypt from August 2 to 6, 2024. The delegation also included Researcher Zhang Yi, Deputy Director Yang Kun from the Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases, and Deputy Director Cao Zhiguo from the Anhui Provincial CDC. The delegation participated in the project advancement meeting for the China-Egypt collaboration and conducted cooperative exchanges on tropical disease prevention and control.

 

This exchange received substantial support and considerable attention from Ain Shams University, the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, and the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population. The discussions focused on the prevention and control of vector-borne tropical diseases, such as schistosomiasis, malaria, with both sides engaging in open exchanges that deepened mutual understanding and trust on control strategies, scientific research, and talent cultivation. Both parties expressed hopes for establishing more long-term, multi-channel, high-level, and substantive cooperation. They aim to foster a sustainable development and cooperative platform in the field of tropical diseases between China and Africa countries, advancing the goals of the WHO Neglected Tropical Diseases Roadmap and contributing to global efforts to control and eliminate of neglected tropical diseases such as malaria, schistosomiasis, and lymphatic filariasis.
