Joint efforts needed to cultivate high-quality public health professionals

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) held a national conference on education and training for disease control and prevention institutions in Xining, capital city of Northwest China's Qinghai province, from Oct 25 to 26, gathering more than 140 participants.

 

The conference summarized education and training work, explored cooperation and exchange mechanisms for talent cultivation led by disease control and prevention institutions and higher education institutions, and discussed the development of a talent pool for disease control and prevention.

 

At the conference, Shi Ying, deputy director of the international cooperation department of the National Administration of Disease Control and Prevention, emphasized the significance of education and training for disease control and prevention institutions.

 

Shi Xiaoming, deputy director-general of the China CDC, delivered a lecture on strengthening cooperation between disease control and prevention institutions and universities to further cultivate high-quality public health professionals.

 

Thematic lectures were also given by several experts on a wide range of topics, including public health and preventive medicine, promoting high-quality development of health under the Belt and Road Initiative, cultivating international medical and health professionals, and the training of health management professionals.

 

Representatives from the CDCs of Shanghai municipality and Qinghai, Hainan, Yunnan and Jiangxi provinces shared their experiences in specialized training programs, education and training. 

 

The conference also included a sub-venue for strategic cooperation with universities, where representatives from public health colleges of universities and provincial-level CDCs exchanged ideas on the progress of collaboration with universities and the priorities in cultivating high-level public health talents with practical skills.
