Are people with Type O blood more attractive to mosquitoes?

Mosquitoes have no preference for a specific blood type.

It is carbon dioxide, heat, and volatile chemicals that help mosquitoes detect and locate their target. There's currently no evidence that suggests blood types can make a difference to people's attractiveness to mosquitoes.

Mosquitoes like dark and black colors, and are sensitive to odors of carbon dioxide produced through respiration and sweat excreted by the human metabolism, study claims.

Two types of people may become a magnet for mosquitoes:

The first group is those who emit more carbon dioxide – people who have a large lung capacity, overweight people, pregnant women and children with an active metabolism.

The other is people with highly-developed sweat glands and high body temperature. They tend to sweat more and excrete odorous lactic acid or other compounds on their skin surfaces, which will attract mosquitoes.

It's helpful to wear long-sleeved tops and long pants, or to use insect repellent on exposed skin or clothing when going out.
