Lu Jiang obtained her PhD in medical science from Harbin Medical University in 2007 and did her postdoc research in traditional Chinese medicine at Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine. From 1989 to 2008, Lu held various positions in local health agencies in Heilongjiang province, Northeast China. 
 
Before joining the China CDC in August 2020, Lu worked at the Center of Health Supervision of the National Health Commission (formerly the Ministry of Health), serving as its deputy director between May 2011 and January 2015, and at the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, serving successively as its deputy director, deputy Party secretary and Party secretary. She also served as vice-mayor of Xiamen city between August 2016 and December 2017, and member of the standing committee of the CPC Jinan municipal committee, vice-mayor of Jinan city, member of the leading Party members group of the Jinan municipal government between January 2018 and January 2019. 
 
Lu is also a chief physician, a PhD supervisor and a member of the 13th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee.
