Cao Jianping

Dr. Jianping Cao holds the position of Chief Epidemiology Expert at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), which is associated with the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine in Clinical Medicine from Nanjing Medical University in 1987, followed by a Master's degree in Medicine in 1992 from the same university. In 1998, Dr. Cao achieved a significant academic accomplishment by completing his Doctorate in Pathogen Biology at the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine.
Dr. Cao currently holds dual roles as a senior supervisor and professor with a focus on tropical diseases and parasitology at the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, known also as the Chinese Center for Tropical Diseases Research, which is part of the China CDC, as well as at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. In addition, he serves as a Principal Investigator at the National Key Laboratory of Intelligent Tracking and Forecasting for Infectious Diseases, and the Key Laboratory of Parasite and Vector Biology under the auspices of the National Health Commission of China.
Dr. Cao's professional achievements are marked by a range of leadership positions. He is a renowned researcher and doctoral supervisor at both the China CDC and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. His dedication to the academic and professional spheres is evident through his service in various capacities, including:
●A Member of the Academic Committee of the China CDC;
●Chairman of the Animal Welfare Ethics Committee of the China CDC;
●Deputy President of the Branch of Tropical Diseases and Parasitology under the Chinese Medical Association;
●Deputy President of the Committee on Aetiology of Zoonoses under the Chinese Society for Microbiology;
●A Member of the Shanghai Preventive Medical Science and Technology Award Committee.
With more than three decades of experience, Dr. Cao has devoted his career to progressing research in host-pathogen interactions, immunology, vaccines, and emerging infectious diseases, with a specific emphasis on prevention and control. Since the year 2000, he has spearheaded a multitude of national research initiatives, including:
●Serving as Principal Investigator for three projects within the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China, with a focus on vaccine development for schistosomiasis;
●Leading six projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, investigating immune responses and regulatory mechanisms in hosts infected with Schistosoma japonicum and other tropical diseases;
●Overseeing a project funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, focused on the emerging infectious disease caused by Cryptosporidium;
●Leading four projects under the National Science and Technology Major Program, investigating the spectrum of parasitic pathogens in patients with diarrhea syndrome and the genetic variation of parasites;
●Directing a project under the Chinese Special Program for Scientific Research in Public Health, which aimed to develop key techniques for the surveillance and risk assessment of meat-, fish-, and water-borne parasitic diseases;
●Heading two projects under the Three-Year Initiative Plan for Strengthening the Public Health System Construction in Shanghai, with an emphasis on the control of tropical and parasitic diseases and their vectors.
Dr. Cao is actively engaged in academic publishing. He holds the position of Editor-in-Chief for the Chinese Journal of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases, serves as an Associate Editor for Disease Surveillance, and is a member of the editorial board for Zoonoses, in addition to his other editorial roles.
Dr. Cao's comprehensive research and distinguished leadership have profoundly influenced infectious disease prevention and control strategies within China, thereby making a significant contribution to the global progress in the fields of epidemiology and tropical medicine.
