July 1992,Graduated from the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, obtained a Master's degree in Immunology. September 1999, Graduated from Peking Union Medical College Hospital(PUMCH), Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, with a Doctor of Medicine degree. Professor Zhang has been working at the Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine since 1992, which was renamed the National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention, China CDC in 2002. In the second half of 2000, he served as a visiting scholar (postdoctoral researcher) at the Department of Molecular Microbiology in Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis to conduct collaborative research.

Prof. Zhang is a distinguished researcher and doctoral advisor of China CDC and Nanjing Medical University. Additionally, Professor Zhang serves as the honorary chairman of the Human Ecology and Ecological Health Committee under the Chinese Ecological Society and the honorary chairman of the Public Health Section of the Chinese Medical Association. Vice Chairman of the Biomarkers Committee of Chinese Research Hospital Association. Member of the National Food Safety Risk Assessment Expert Committee.

Zhang Jianzhong is the Principal Investigator (PI) for National Key Laboratory of Intelligent Tracking and Forecasting for Infectious Diseases. As the PI of the Intelligent Bacterial Identification Platform and the PI of the Novel Fungal Pathogen Detection and Identification Technology, He lead a team in constructing intelligent platforms for bacterial and fungal identification which provide key technological support for rapid identification, rapid drug sensitivity testing, and associated analysis of various bacteria and fungi in different samples.

For many years, Professor Zhang has primarily engaged in the diagnosis of infectious diseases, leading the introduction and development of several new diagnostic technologies for bacterial infections. The main research areas are bacterial molecular biology, including the biological characters and pathogenicity of bacteria, communicable diseases diagnosis, the proteomic research and the antibiotic resistance study of bacteria.

Zhang Jianzhong have been leading research in the field of Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection for over 34 years. He is the PI for H.pylori infection prevention and control in China CDC, focusing on the pathogenesis, drug resistance, pathogenic mechanism, diagnostic methods, , and the development of control techniques and prevention strategies. He is in charge of the "Chinese Helicobacter pylori Strain Bank", housing more than 27,000 representative strains of H.pylori. He also heads the "Chinese Helicobacter pylori Antibiotic Resistance Map", dynamically collecting and releasing information on drug resistance of H.pylori in the Chinese population. As the project leader, he successfully completed and unveiled the inaugural "White Paper on the Prevention and Control of Helicobacter pylori Infections in China" on June 3, 2023. Prof. Zhang Jianzhong served as the Chairperson for the 21th CHRO (The 21th International Workshop on Campylobacter, Helicobacter and Related Organisms)Conference hold in2022 .
