2025 National Conference on Parasitic Disease Surveillance and Control Held in Haikou

From June 5 to 6, 2025, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) convened the 2025 National Conference on Parasitic Disease Surveillance and Control in Haikou, Hainan Province. The event brought together more than 120 participants, including officials and technical professionals from CDCs and parasitic disease control institutions across all provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. Also in attendance were leaders and experts from the Division of Infectious Disease Control and the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases of China CDC. Li Qun, Deputy Director of China CDC, and Zeng Zhaozhang, Director of the Hainan Provincial Bureau for Disease Control and Prevention, attended the meeting and delivered remarks.

 

In his speech, Deputy Director Li Qun fully acknowledged China’s achievements in parasitic disease prevention and control. He also highlighted key challenges that remain, including localized resurgence of infections, the impact of climate change, risks of imported and newly emerging parasitic diseases, and delays in capacity development. He emphasized the need to strengthen the surveillance and early warning system for parasitic diseases, enhance risk assessment and emergency response capabilities, build core capacities, and promote innovation in prevention and control technologies—all essential to advancing the national goals for parasitic disease control and elimination with high quality.

 

The conference featured presentations and exchanges on several key topics, including the development of surveillance and early warning systems for priority and emerging parasitic diseases, the current epidemic situation and associated challenges, the implementation of new policies and technologies, and best practices in prevention and control.

 

This meeting is expected to actively facilitate the implementation of annual priority tasks in parasitic disease surveillance, early warning, and control, providing strong support for achieving the goals outlined in the national prevention and control plan on schedule.
