China CDC (Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine) Holds Working Meeting on Curriculum Development for Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Program

On June 6, 2025, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), also known as the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, convened a working meeting in Beijing to advance curriculum development for its Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) professional degree program. Shi Xiaoming, Deputy Director of China CDC and Executive Dean of the Graduate School, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. More than 20 participants took part in the meeting, including members of the DrPH Curriculum Development Coordination Group, heads and core members of disciplinary working groups, and representatives from the Graduate School. The meeting was chaired by Liao Kaiju, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training and Deputy Dean of the Graduate School.

 

In his remarks, Deputy Director Shi emphasized that the DrPH curriculum must be application-oriented and practice-driven, aligned with the needs of disease prevention and control positions, and focused on interdisciplinary integration. He underscored the importance of an open academic model, encouraging the inclusion of both internal and external faculty in the instructional team, and supporting cross-disciplinary collaboration. He also called for the development of exemplary courses to serve as benchmarks, which would lay the foundation for subsequent development of textbooks and case libraries.

Staff from the Department of Education and Training presented the DrPH training plan, curriculum development arrangements, and requirements for newly offered courses. Disciplinary working group representatives engaged in focused discussions on key aspects of DrPH curriculum design and implementation. The meeting concluded by emphasizing the importance of curriculum development in the DrPH program. It called for enhancing the academic rigor, innovation, and challenge level of course design to support the development of a high-quality professional public health education system.
