Recently, the Chinese version of an important guideline developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), Implementation guidance on integrating the prevention and control of chronic diseases into HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and sexual and reproductive health planning, translated under the leadership of the National Center for Chronic and Noncommunicable Disease Control and Prevention of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), was officially released on the WHO website (https://iris.who.int/items/c4242457-9208-4598-bbe4-1460963c43f3).

The guideline was issued by WHO in 2023 in response to the growing challenge of comorbidities. It provides countries with an authoritative strategic framework and practical implementation pathways for advancing integrated planning across chronic diseases, mental health, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. It also offers guidance on integrating services for infectious diseases and noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer, and presents concrete case examples from different countries and regions. The National Center for Chronic and Noncommunicable Disease Control and Prevention of China CDC convened a team of experts to carry out the translation and technical review of the guideline, ensuring the accuracy and professional quality of the Chinese version.

The official release of the Chinese edition provides health professionals in China with up to date and practical international guidance. It supports the goal of “safeguarding people’s health in an all round way and throughout the life course” set out in the Healthy China 2030 Planning Outline. It also facilitates the use of international good practices by public health institutions in Chinese speaking regions worldwide. This effort will help promote the simultaneous strengthening of early screening and health management for chronic diseases in the course of controlling traditional infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in China and beyond. It will support the shift of public health services from a disease centred to a health centred approach and will play an important and long term role in building a more efficient and better integrated public health service system.
