China CDC Delegation Attends First Meeting of BRICS National Public Health Institutes
From 14 to 19 September 2025, a three member delegation from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), led by Zhou Yuhui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of China CDC, attended the first meeting of BRICS national public health institutes held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The meeting was hosted by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, the national public health institute of Brazil, which serves as the BRICS chair in 2025. It brought together public health institutes from BRICS member states and partner countries to address global health challenges. Discussions focused on five main themes: health surveillance and emergency response, strengthening national health systems, health equity, climate change and health, and eliminating hunger and poverty. Representatives from more than 20 countries and international organizations took part.
During the meeting, Zhou Yuhui delivered a keynote address at the strategic dialogue session of BRICS national public health institutes. He outlined progress in the work of China CDC and its international cooperation, and set out priority areas for public health cooperation under the BRICS framework. He also exchanged views with experts from other countries on advancing South-South cooperation and on shared public health priorities. Experts from China CDC chaired the thematic discussion “Climate change, health and equity: strategic pathways toward COP30” and shared relevant technical experience in the session on promoting food security and balanced nutrition.
The participation of the China CDC delegation highlighted China’s constructive role in global health governance and its strong commitment to sharing Chinese solutions and deepening BRICS cooperation in public health with all partners.
