The 2025 International Conference on Gonorrhoea Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance Held in Hangzhou
The 2025 International Conference on Gonorrhoea Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance was held in Hangzhou from 17 to 19 October 2025. The conference was hosted by the Hospital for Skin Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and the National Center for Sexually Transmitted Disease Control of China CDC, and co-organised by Nanjing Medical University and the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Dermatology and Venereology. It brought together nearly 130 representatives from fifteen countries, including twenty eight participants from abroad, and covered all six regions of the World Health Organization.
Since it was first held in 2017, the conference has taken place every two years and has now reached its fourth edition, with the 2021 meeting cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference aims to review epidemiological trends, share recent research findings and strengthen international cooperation and exchange. Focusing on the theme of gonorrhoea infection and antimicrobial resistance, this year’s meeting examined the current global situation and major challenges in this field. The programme included four thematic sessions on strengthening global responses to infection and resistance, recent developments in national responses, the development of innovative approaches, and infection and antimicrobial resistance in key populations, with a total of twenty three thematic presentations.
Officials from the National Administration of Disease Prevention and Control, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), Peking Union Medical College of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the Hospital for Skin Diseases of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the National Center for Sexually Transmitted Disease Control of China CDC, the Zhejiang Provincial Health Commission and the Zhejiang Provincial Administration of Disease Prevention and Control attended the opening ceremony and related activities.
