Visit of Tereza Kasaeva, Director of the WHO Department of HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Infections, to China CDC
On the morning of 25 September 2025, Tereza Kasaeva, Director of the World Health Organization Department of HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Infections, led a delegation to the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC). Zhang Guoxin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of China CDC, received the delegation and held talks with the visitors.
Zhang Guoxin welcomed Director Kasaeva and congratulated her on taking up her new post. He noted that tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis are major global public health challenges. China has made notable progress in their prevention and control after many years of effort, but still faces many challenges. He said that he looked forward to working with the World Health Organization to raise cooperation between the two sides to a new level. Director Kasaeva thanked the Chinese side for the reception and spoke highly of China’s leading role in infectious disease control and global health cooperation, in particular its contribution to supporting disease prevention and control in African countries and other developing countries. She said that WHO is ready to continue deepening its cooperation with China CDC in areas such as innovative diagnostic tools, vaccine research and development, surveillance and evaluation systems, and health workforce development.
Following the meeting, expert teams from both sides held practical discussions on progress in the prevention and control of tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis, as well as on priorities for future cooperation.
