PATH Expert Team Visits China CDC
On the afternoon of 20 October 2025, an expert team from PATH (Program for Appropriate Technology in Health) and the PATH Shanghai Office visited the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC). The visit aimed to share progress and experience in diagnostic test development, quality control and support for local production of diagnostic products in Africa.
During the visit, the PATH team held detailed discussions with experts from the Global Public Health Center, the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention and the National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention of China CDC. The two sides exchanged views on the development of diagnostic tests and on current market trends. PATH experts described PATH’s role across the full cycle of diagnostic product development and its approaches to assessing market needs, and they also introduced PATH’s diagnostic partners and ongoing diagnostic projects in China. Experts from China CDC gave an overview of the position of Chinese HIV test kits in global markets and explained the pathways being used to introduce these products overseas. The two sides also discussed in depth how to promote local manufacture of diagnostic products in Africa and how to move related projects forward. The visit provided a solid basis for further cooperation between the two organizations.
