On the afternoon of 28 October, the Training Program on Capacity Building for Africa CDC, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, came to a successful close. Shi Xiaoming, Deputy Director and Deputy President of China CDC and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, attended the closing ceremony and delivered remarks. Houmed Mohamed Houmed, Adviser to the Ministry of Health of Djibouti, spoke on behalf of all participants. A total of twenty seven African public health administrators and technical staff from Tanzania, the Gambia, South Sudan, Mauritius, Djibouti and Zambia took part in the ceremony. Shi Xiaoming presented certificates to the trainees, and the closing session was chaired by Qi Xiaopeng, Director of the Global Public Health Center.

The fourteen day program was officially launched to systematically strengthen the professional capacity of African disease control institutions. Training focused on key topics such as malaria and HIV/AIDS control and the response to public health emergencies, with the aim of helping build stronger public health defenses in Africa. Participants undertook structured learning through a combination of classroom discussions and field visits in Beijing, Haikou and Qionghai. They deepened their understanding of China’s public health system and the core functions of its disease control institutions, and linked what they learned with the needs of infectious disease control in their own countries, developing several public health project proposals that adapt Chinese experience to local contexts. The program strengthened participants’ strategic thinking and organisational leadership as public health managers, deepened the shared understanding between China and African partners on cooperation in public health and laid a solid foundation for further expanding collaboration in this field.
