6th Annual Meeting of the Institutional-based Network of China-Africa Cooperation on Malaria Elimination(INCAM) Successfully Held in Changsha

On June 13, 2025, the 6th Annual Meeting of the Institutional-based Network of China-Africa Cooperation on Malaria Elimination(INCAM) was successfully held in Changsha. The event was hosted by the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Chinese Center for Tropical Diseases Research). The meeting brought together approximately 50 participants, including national representatives from Tanzania, Zambia, Senegal, and The Gambia; experts from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Sun Yat-sen University; provincial CDCs in Henan, Anhui and etc.; and representatives from the World Health Organization Global Malaria Programme (WHO GMP), the Gates Foundation, as well as relevant enterprises.
 
In the opening session, Dr. Li Shizhu, Director of the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases; Dr. Maru Aregawi from WHO GMP; and Mr. Gong Wenfeng, Deputy Director from the Gates Foundation, delivered remarks expressing their strong confidence in China-Africa cooperation in the fight against malaria. Keynote presentations addressed the current status of malaria control and elimination efforts in The Gambia and Zambia, the challenges faced by high-burden, high-impact countries in malaria surveillance and response, and recent progress in China’s rapid diagnostic tests for malaria. Experts held discussions on the themes of “China’s potential contributions in anti-malaria products research and development” and “Expectations from Africa and the International Community for Chinese Anti-Malaria Products.
 
In the closing remarks, the representative from WHO GMP emphasized that China-Africa cooperation on malaria control is a key component of building a China-Africa community of health for all. He called for further sharing of China’s experiences, technologies, and products to contribute to Africa’s malaria control and elimination goals.
