China CDC Public Health Emergency Team for Nature Disaster Deploys to Earthquake-Affected Areas in Myanmar to Conduct Post-Disaster Public Health and Epidemic Control Work

On April 19, 2025, ten members of the Public Health Emergency Team for Natural Disaster from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) joined the China Public Health Team to Myanmar and departed for the earthquake-stricken area of Mandalay, Myanmar, to carry out post-disaster public health and epidemic prevention efforts. Wang Jianwei, Director of China CDC, along with leaders from the National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Institute of Environmental Health, as well as heads of the Office of  General Administration, Office of International Cooperation, Office of Public Organizations, Center for Global Public Health, Public Health Emergency Center, Division of Infectious Diseases, and Center for Immunization Planning, were present at Beijing Capital International Airport to see the team off.
 
Following the 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, China CDC responded with great urgency and seriousness. The Center promptly launched joint risk assessments related to post-disaster infectious diseases and potential public health emergencies, and undertook preparatory work for emergency deployment. In accordance with the deployment requirements of the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, ten members of the China CDC Public Health Emergency Team for Natural Disaster were selected to participate in the mission. Their professional expertise spans public health emergency management, risk assessment, infectious disease prevention and control, immunization and vaccination, vector control, water and environmental sanitation, and environmental disinfection. Together with the Yunnan Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, they jointly formed the China Public Health Team to Myanmar.
 
At the pre-departure briefing, Director Wang Jianwei emphasized that this mission carries great responsibility and is a profound honor. It represents another important milestone in public health collaboration between China and Myanmar, as well as a concrete action by China CDC to contribute to regional stability and actively advance the vision of building a global community of health for all. He urged team members to make full use of their professional strengths to help Myanmar establish a strong line of defense in epidemic prevention and control. He also stressed the need to strictly adhere to work discipline, foreign affairs protocols, and organizational rules. Director Wang called on all relevant departments of China CDC to provide full support in terms of deployment, personnel preparation, and logistical arrangements to ensure that the assistance mission in Myanmar proceeds in a safe, efficient, and orderly manner.
