Dr. Meg Doherty, Director of the WHO Department of Global HIV, Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Programmes, Visits China CDC

On the morning of April 15, 2025, Dr. Meg Doherty, Director of the Department of Global HIV, Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Programmes at the World Health Organization (WHO), visited the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC). She was received at the North Campus by Dr. Yan Jun, Deputy Director General of China CDC.
 
Dr. Yan welcomed Dr. Doherty and provided a brief overview of the Center’s development. She noted that WHO has been a longstanding and reliable partner of China CDC and expressed hope that the visit would further deepen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the field of disease prevention and control. Dr. Doherty expressed her gratitude for the warm reception. She recalled her previous visit to the Center in 2012 and conveyed her sincere appreciation for its significant growth and achievements since then.
 
Following the meeting, Dr. Doherty and her delegation held a discussion with senior officials and experts from the National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention. The two sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics including HIV prevention and control, case management, laboratory testing, and hepatitis prevention. Both parties expressed their willingness to strengthen collaboration in areas such as strategic planning and coordination, the application of new technologies and medicines, and the sharing of best practices, with the aim of advancing global disease control goals. After the discussion, Dr. Doherty and her delegation visited the National HIV Reference Laboratory.
