Workshop on Development Requirements for the National Pathogen and Vector Surveillance System and Central Laboratory Information System Held in Beijing
To accelerate the informatization of China’s disease prevention and control system, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) convened a workshop on the development requirements for the National Pathogen and Vector Surveillance System and the Central Laboratory Information System in Beijing on March 24, 2025. Yan Jun, Deputy Director of the China CDC, attended the meeting and delivered remarks. Over 30 representatives from 11 departments participated, including the Division of Central Laboratories, National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention, National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention, National Institute for Nutrition and Health, National Institute of Environmental Health, National Institute of Occupational Health, Institute of Tuberculosis Control, National Institute of Zoological Research, and the Information Center. The meeting was chaired by Peng Zhihang, Deputy Director of the Information Center.
At the meeting, the Information Center presented a report on the preparatory work for the two systems. Discussions focused on the business processes and functional requirements of the Infectious Disease Pathogen Surveillance System, Vector Surveillance System, Host Surveillance System, and Digital Laboratory System, with a clear emphasis on defining the construction objectives. In his speech, Deputy Director Yan reviewed the background, policy requirements, and significance of the project. He stressed that the development of information systems must be driven by operational needs and aimed at addressing real-world challenges. He further highlighted the importance of interoperability with provincial-level platforms and the need to deeply integrate informatization with core disease control functions to ensure practical and effective application.
Looking ahead, the lead departments will further refine task allocation to ensure that system functions are accurately aligned with real-world use cases. These efforts will support the enhancement of national capacities in pathogen and vector surveillance and promote the digital development of central laboratory operations.
