World Water Day: Saving water in households
The 31st World Water Day kicked off on March 22, with the following week from March 22-28 marking the 36th China Water Week. We should enhance awareness of water conservation and fulfill our responsibilities in reducing water waste.
Use water reasonably
Do not waste water and use just as much water as you need.
Fully open, a typical faucet allows 2 to 7.5 liters of water to flow out in one minute, and 1 to 3.8 liters of water at half flow.
Consciously control your faucet flow.
Avoid keeping the faucet open
Do not wash dishes and vegetables with the faucet on. Instead, wash them in the basin or turn on the faucet intermittently as needed.
First wipe plates using waste paper towels or a cloth, which can significantly reduce the amount of water used.
Use an appropriate amount of detergent to avoid excessive rinsing.
Wash with water in a container
In 30 seconds about 1 to 3.8 liters of water will run out of a faucet.
Using a cup to brush your teeth requires only 0.6 liters of water.
Take a short shower
Avoid taking a shower for too long and turn off the faucet when scrubbing.
You can save 12 liters of water if you cut your shower time by one minute.
Using a water-saving shower can enhance the shower experience while also saving water.
When taking a shower, you can use a large basin to collect water, and the recycled water can be reused.
Control the water temperature
Reasonably control the water temperature to avoid waste of too hot or too cold water.
Control the water level.
Properly reduce the frequency of using a bathtub, and the water after bathing can be used to flush the toilet.
Saving water in laundry
Collect as many as clothes to wash together and minimize the number of times you need to do laundry.
Hand washing is recommended for small pieces or amounts of clothing.
Adjust the washing time according to the type and quantity of clothes.
If using a multifunctional washing machine, choose washing functions according to the laundry needs to avoid excessive water use.
Washing with warm water makes it easier to clean stains.
Connect the drain pipe to a water storage device, such as a bucket or basin, and the recycled water can be reused.
Laundry liquid should be dispensed in an appropriate amount to avoid unnecessary repeated washing and waste.
Select efficient and suitable laundry products.
Water for pets and plants
We can use recycled water such as the water after washing rice, fruits and vegetables, or fish-farming water, to water potted plants.
According to the characteristics of the plants, use a watering can to avoid overwatering.
Select a water-saving toilet
Collect sewage from household dishes, rice washing, showers, or laundry to flush the toilet.
Install toilet accessories that can control the amount of water output, and adjust the flushing time.
